Coach Alex Isabirye has resigned from his coaching duties from URA FC, the club has confirmed. According to the club official website, both parties have mutually agreed to part ways following a poor start to the FUFA Super League (FSL) 2012/13 season. “The Coach has today 5th January 2013 tendered in his resignation to Chairman of the Club and the Chairman has dully accepted the resignation with immediate effect”, read part of the statement on the website.
“The resignation has been due to the inconsistent results posted by the Club in First Round of the FUFA Super League”.
It should be remembered that Isabirye took over the Head Coach role at URA FC in March 2010 replacing sacked Moses Basena with whom he worked as assistant coach.
Under his reign as head Coach, he has won three trophies; the super league in 2010/11, the Bell Uganda Cup in 2012 and the 2012 Super Cup.
The management of the club has also issued a statement and thanked Isabirye for his services at the club.
“URA FC is internally grateful to the work ethics and commitment exhibited by Coach Isabirye Alex in the last 3 years he has worked as head coach of URA which has resulted into winning the 2010-11 Super League title, Uganda Cup in 2012 and FUFA Super Cup in 2012. He further took the Club to Second Round of the Orange CAF Champions League in 2012 for the first time ever”.
According to the club officials, his assistant Ibrahim Kirya will take over as the interim Coach as they search for a new coach but rumours doing the rounds is that Sam Ssimbwa whose contract at SC Victoria University will come to end on January 31st following its termination is the most likely candidate to take over.
URA FC has lost three FSL games in a row (SC Villa 3-2, Victors 1-0 and Vipers SC 1-0) and currently lie sixth on the 16-team log with 19pts from 13 games played.
Kawowo Sports’ effort to speak to Isabirye was futile as he could not pick his mobile phones but we shall keep you updated as usual.
