Uganda’s national squash player of the year Michael Kawooya, finished fifth in the recent White Nights Open Squash International in Saint Petersburg city, Russia at the Sports Center.
The Ugandan squash ace was seeded number three and started his assault with a loss to Russia’s Alexander Shilov 8-11, 11-4,11-9, 12-10 in his only defeat in a tournament that attracts players from the Russian Republic and surrounding neighbours.
Kawooya then went on to beat Vitali Evdochenko 11-2, 11-1, 11-5 and then overrun Valeriy Litvinko 11-0, 11-0, 11-0.
The Ugandan player who was the only representative the nation and finished fifth in the main draw of 16. He is using the tournaments to gain experience and exposure at the same time building his game ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year in Glasgow, Scotland.
Earlier he took part in the Autoquip Grand Prix Squash tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he finished eighth.
