CECAFA opts for Lugogo, Wankulukuku stadiums

The 2012 edition of the Tusker CECAFA Challenge Cup has taken a new twist in terms of venues. Following the heavy downpours in Kampala, the organisers have shifted the last group games from Namboole and Nakivubo to Lugogo and Wankulukuku stadiums citing the poor terrain.  It had not been the plan to shift the matches but organisers felt the tourney need a good atmosphere.

“We need a condusive atmosphere where we can have the games,” CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye told the media on Friday.  The last games of both groups B and C will now not be at the 42000 seater stadium.

Somalia will play Tanzania followed by the Eritrea-Rwanda clash as the curtains close down on group B, all at Lugogo.  At Wankulukuku, a bit in the outskirts of the city is where Sudan will battle Burundi while Malawi will date Zanzibar. SuperSport will telecast the last two matches at Lugogo.

Also, the first quarterfinal on Monday will be live from Lugogo before live action returns to Namboole on Tuesday.  Unlike the heat in Dar-es Salaam last year, Kampala has had cold conditions.
