Sport Club Victoria University defender Savio Kabugo says he was impressed with his national team debut and wants to be the first of many appearances for the Cranes.

The defender was part of the team that drew 2-2 with Amavubi of Rwanda at the Amahoro stadium, Kigali in an international friendly on Wednesday. Said Kyeyune and Daniel Sserunkuma netted for the Cranes while Meddie Kagere and Patrick Sibomana twice cancelled the visitors lead.

“I was impressed with my performance”, Kabugo stated.

“I enjoyed the game and will work towards achieving more caps. I hope the appearance is the first of many more to come”.

Kabugo played at the heart of defence partnering his club team mate Denis Guma for the entire first half before coming off for another debutant Fahad Kawooya.

The youngster further stated that it was a dream true representing his country and plays down any nerves given it was his first game.

“It was a normal game even before kickoff. The only difference was playing alongside and against already established internationals”. “I enjoyed every moment of it”, he said.

To cement a place on the team, Kabugo will have to fend off competition from his seniors Andrew Mwesigwa, Henry Kalungi, Denis Guma and upcoming centre backs like Yusuf Mukisa and Fahad Kawooya

The former U-17 international has been impressive for SC Victoria University in the FSL and he is one of the reasons the club has only registered a single loss from 16 outings.

He is expected to be the player upon which Uganda’s central defence is built in the 2014 CHAN qualifiers against Tanzania in June
