FIVB Kampala Beach Volleyball Open to be held at UMA grounds

The FIVB Kampala Beach Volleyball Open due from September 24-29 will be held at the Uganda Manufacturers’ Association Auxiliary Parking according an agreement signed by UMA and the promoter of the tournament House of Talent.

The two parties signed an agreement at UMA offices recently which will see the international beach volleyball open being held at Lugogo.

“We are very glad that we have reached an understanding with UMA for this location. This is the most ideal location for the games, because it is within easy reach of all concerned parties from within Uganda as well as for the visiting teams and spectators who are mostly expected to reside within the town centre,” Eddie Okila, the promoter of House of Talent said after signing the agreement.

The UMA Executive Director, Mr. Sebaggala M Kigozi remarked that Uganda Manufacturers Association was proud to partner with House of Talent to bring the games closer to the people.

“Uganda Manufacturers Association grounds are the perfect venue to host these games and we are proud to offer the fields to House of Talent free of charge. This will offer us an opportunity to tap into the crowd that these games will bring to Uganda. I would like to encourage the UMA  members to show case their products and services during the games.” said Kigozi.

Work by House of Talent to level the fields in time for the September event is already on going. The field that is between the UMA show grounds and Game stores officially becomes the preferred venue for the five day tournament.

Okila explained that over the next few days, they will embark on transforming the place into a world class Beach Volleyball arena. “We are going to start building up the courts as per the world federation requirements as soon as we finalize contracts with our suppliers for the construction. That should be kicking off any moment now.” he added.

With 80% of the sand needed for the world games available locally and 20% sand needed from Mombasa already in the country, preparations for the games are well under way.

“As it is now, we have almost everything we need in place and are now entering the implementation phase ahead of the actual games. There are already a lot of international inquiries and we have already received a number of confirmations from several nations. So without a doubt, the games are on in Kampala.” Okila said.

Uganda will become the first African nation to host the world event, attracting over 20 countries from all around the world.
