Ugandan squash players dominated the just concluded Nakuru Open Squash International tournament in Nakuru, Kenya from October 17-20 at the Rift Valley Sports Club.

Squash player of the year 2012 Michael Kawooya, was once again on top of his game together with his Ugandan team mates claiming the title with a 3-0 win over his club-rival Ian Rukunya Kajubu beating him 11-4, 11-9, 20-18.

“It really feels good to come here and win this tournament,” Kawooya said. “I am happy that we Ugandan players dominated the tournament and hope this will help us gain experience on the international scene.”

Ugandan players started their dominance from the quarter-finals where the overall winner overcame his compatriot Paul Kadoma 3-0, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8, then in the semi-finals Kawooya beat Brian Okumu 3-1, 11-3,11-5,9-11,11-1.

The Uganda team will then participate in the Parklands Open Squash tournament that starts from November 11-16 in Nairobi and then they take part in the Kenya Open from November 25-30 at the same venue.

Uganda Squash Rackets Association together with squash well wishers and the fraternity at Kampala Club are facilitating the team for this squash tour.
