GOtv unveiled as 2013 CECAFA Cup Official Sponsors

Pay Television station Go TV has been unveiled as the official sponsors of the forthcoming 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).

The development was announced on Thursday 21at a ceremony in Nairobi with the television company revealing it will offer approximately Ksh 56.5 million (Ugx 1.63 billion) worth of sponsorship into a two weeks tournament that kicks off on November 27 at Nyao stadium.

Of that amount, Ksh 11.5 million (Ugx 330 million) will go into direct sponsorship while Ksh 45 million (Ugx 1.3billion) will cater for production and logistical costs in which all 26 matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport and national broadcast stations across the region.

On behalf of Go TV, General Manager Felix Kyengo was present and said that the company is happy to be associated with Cecafa and promised more support into sports in the region.

The Pay TV Company will partner with Century bottling company under their Coca Cola brand and UAP insurance as co-sponsors of the tourney.

Coca Cola has offered sponsorship package worth Ksh 6.5 million (Ugx 185 million) while UAP Insurance gave the organisers of the competition Sh2.5 million (Ugx 71.5 million) and will also insure all the players and match officials during the annual regional tournament.

FKF boss Sam Nyamweya hailed Go TV’s efforts and called upon other corporate companies to come on board.

“I am happy with the gesture by Go TV and by extension Multichoice and SuperSport to come up and sponsor the CECAFA Senior Challenge competition. They have shown that they are true partners in the development of sports not only in Kenya but in the region,” said Nyamweya.

Nyamweya added that it was not an easy duty planning for the tournament but now that sponsorship has been secured, he said everything is ready.

“It has not been easy planning and preparing for the tournament. But now that we have the title’s sponsor, supporting sponsors and government commitment, we are ready for the tournament,” he added.
