Oringa, Mugabe in Rwanda for Gasigwa Memorial Tennis Tournament

Uganda’s tennis top seed Duncan Mugabe and number two David Oringa have traveled to Rwanda to feature in the Gasigwa Memorial Tennis Tournament in memory of the of former Rwanda number one Jean Claude Gasigwa.

The week-long tournament gets underway toady and has attracted more than 120 players from Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.

Valens Habimana, the secretary general of Rwanda Tennis Federation (RTF) revealed to New Times Rwanda that the men’s professional category has 32 players, women’s Pro category 16 players, and men’s singles, amateurs’ category 32 players and 64 in the doubles.

The Ugandan duo will face Rwanda’s top players Dieudonne Habiyambere, Olivier Havugimana and Matheiu Uwizeyimana in the event that will rekindle memories of Gasigwa, whose death occured on January 8, 2015 when he collapsed during a morning training session at Cercle Sportif de Kigali.
