AFCON 2017 Qualifiers (Group D Next Matches):
Saturday, 3rd September 2016
- Uganda vs. Comoros – Kampala
- Burkina Faso vs. Botswana – Ouagadougou
Uganda Cranes’ roll coaster of agony and tears, punctuated by near misses for the failure to make the grade to the African Cup of Nations in 39 years could be buried on 3rd September 2016 at Nelson Mandela National Stadium.
This will be achieved on one strong, bold condition – winning against Comoros in the Cranes last group fixture.
Burkina Faso’s hard fought 1-0 win away in Comoros meant that they regained Group D leadership with 10 points just like Uganda but the West Africans have a head-to-head edge.
A win for Burkina Faso in the last game against Botswana will definitely see them seal the ticket to Gabon for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as group leaders.
The good news for Uganda though, is that they need three points to total 13 and will be well in the top contention for the second placed teams in all the groups.
Only 7 teams stand in the Uganda Cranes’ way to that effect.
1) Liberia/Tunisia – Group A
Both Liberia and Tunisia are on 10 points each, the former tops the group on a better head to head, they verse each other in the last game a win for any leaves the other eliminated, a draw leaves each at 11 points.
2) Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)/Central African Republic (CAR) – Group B
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is on 12 points and Central African Republic (CAR) on 10 points.
The last tie is a clash between the two.
If DRC wins CAR, a win for Central African Republic (CAR) means they tops the group.
3) Benin – Group C
Benin has 8 points with a game in hand against Equatorial Guinea to be played on June 12 and a win will push them to 11 points before their last clash against Mali which is currently on 13 points.
A win for Benin will push them to 14 points and Mali pushed to the second at 13 points.
4) Group F
At the moment Cape Verde is 2nd with 9 points, a win in the last game takes them to 12 points.
5) Group L
Swaziland has 8 points, its last game is against Zimbabwe who are the group leaders with 11 points.
Swaziland win drives them to 11 points and the team with a better head to head shall take the first spot as the other joins the battle for the best second placed.
6) Group J
Ethiopia is second with 8 points, a win in their last game takes will see them on 11 points.
