The standout fixture on the opening day of the 2016-17 Big League season sees Maroons take a long trip to West Nile for a duel against Paidha Black Angles on Thursday 15th, at Bar Okoro, Zombo in the Elgon Group.
Last term in the Premier League, Maroons finished bottom of the table with a staggering 18 points adrift of safety. Their arrival in the Big League has many asking whether they can make an instant return to top flight with long term serving Coach Asaph Mwebaze who briefly parted company with the team last year in December now back at the dugout.
With a host of friendlies played against top Premier League sides in preseason, the prisoners seem to go into tomorrow’s fixture in great shape and mood albeit losing right back Dennis Rukundo to KCCA, Hudu Mulikyi to URA and Umar Babu who left to complete his studies.
Defender Ronald Orombi returns and is expected to start after spending much of last season in the sidelines while midfielder Peter Otai misses the trip due to Malaria. Both Captain Sylvester Okello and namesake Maxwell may not start tomorrow.
Mwebaze is expected to start Jamil Maliyamungu in goal, Kizito, Godwin Kitagenda, Allan Anguyo, Richard Ayiko, Darmien Nakalema, Orombi, Yahya Lutti, Rapheal Winju, Patrick Kaddu and Solomon Walusimbi in a 4-3-3 formation.
After a series of unconvincing away results, Paidha Black Angels failed to secure a playoff position, and finished fourth ten points behind group leaders Onduparaka. They however, start the new season as one of the favorites to win the league, and if their home form last season is anything to go by, the Black Angels are favorites to edge their opposition tomorrow.
