Canada’s Lisa Brooking cannot hold back after learning she will represent Canada at the 2017 Kampala World Cross Country Championships.
“I am overjoyed. I couldn’t be happier,” Brooking told The Packet & Times after learning she had earned a spot on the Athletics Canada team that will travel to East Africa. “I am thrilled to be representing our country on the world stage.”
The Twin Lakes Secondary School graduate will make the trip to Uganda’s capital after finishing eighth at the Canadian Cross Country Championship in Kingston.
Athletics Canada only takes six senior women to the international competitions and Lisa was had literally missed out, only for two opting out for various reasons, not to participate.
“My goal is to help the team reach the podium,” said Brooking. “At the last world cross-country championships, Canada’s senior women finished 10th overall as a team. Our senior women’s team is very talented.”
