Rwanda has pledged to send a group of athletes to Uganda’s capital – Kampala – ahead of the 2017 World Cross Country Championships due March 26th.
The contingent will test run the venue – Kololo Independence Grounds – for the world event on January 14th.
“Rwanda requested for permission to test their senior men athletics team and also the mixed relay cross country championship team, which has been granted by the national federation,” IAAF Kampala World Cross Country Championships media revealed.
Rwanda is also expected to send some athletes in the other events.
The exercise follows an inspection by an IAAF Media delegate – Anna Legnani – who toured the facilities two months ago.
Legnani inspected the proposed media Hotel and other media related sites, met the IT officials also checking out some of the media houses.
Kampala will be the fourth African city in the history of the IAAF World Cross Championships to host the tournament after Guiyang of China passed the baton in 2015.
The winner of the 2017 Kampala IAAF World Cross Country Championships will walk away with $30,000 (105 million Uganda Shillings).
