2017 Mapinduzi Cup: Rivals Simba, Yanga square off in semifinals

2017 Mapinduzi Cup Semifinals

Tuesday, 10th January 2017 | Amman Stadium, Zanzibar

  • Azam Vs Taifa Ya Jang’ombe – 4:15 p.m
  • Simba Vs Yanga – 8:15 p.m

The Simba versus Yanga semifinal clash in the 2017 Mapinduzi Cup has been ear-marked as a final before the main final.

These two rival Tanzanian clubs shall square off at the Amman Stadium on the Zanzibar island on Tuesday.

The development was confirmed on Sunday shortly after the final Group A matches where the defending champions, Uganda Revenue Authority lost to Taifa Ya’ Jang’ombe 1-0 courtesy of Said Muhammed’s penalty in the 63rd minute.

URA thus bowed out of the tournament having failed to raise the points good enough to see them qualify to the next level.

Earlier, Simba had condemned Jang’ombe Boys 2-0 with Laudit Mavugo grabbing a well taken brace.

Simba finished on 10 points to top Group A as Taifa Ya Jang’ombe ended on a high note with a victory that put them second to face Azam who led Group B.

Tuesday’s opening match will see Azam entertain Taifa Ya Jang’ombe in a 4:15 p.m match and the mother of all battles comes at 8:15 p.m between Simba and Yanga.
