The Norwegian Handball federation through ‘Right to Play’ a Non Governmental Organization has donated an Asphalt handball court to Soroti Municipality worth Ug. Shs140M.

Construction of the court has commenced through Rheg Technical Services Limited as it expected to be officially handed over by the end of January 2017.

Progress on the facility has so far been promising according to Francis Mujjuzi and Rodrick Muhumuza of the Uganda Handball Federation commission of the playing and rules section.

The two officials paid a courtesy visit to the facility on Saturday, 6th January 2017.

“We are so far impressed by the current work been undertaken on the Asphalt handball court in Soroti. We are glad for the Norwegian Handball Federation. We believe by the end of January 2017, all the works will have been completed,” Muhumuza stated.

The court will benefit the youth of the Teso sub-region as well as the country at large.

At the moment, there are nine schools that already play handball in Soroti municipality.

Simon Opolot, the Soroti Municipality Handball coordinator sings praise of the all the brains behind the project.

“Construction of the modern handball court is a big step forward towards the development of handball from the grassroots in the Eastern region of Uganda especially Soroti and Uganda as a whole. I thank the Norwegian Handball Federation, Uganda Handball Federation and the Right to Play group together with the other key stake holders in this project,” Opolot remarks.

Handball infrastructure in the country remains a big encumbrance  at the moment.
