Kenya’s Chicago Marathon champion Abel Kirui has revealed he wants to return on a high after a spell of no form courtesy of a career threatening injury.
Kirui now wants to walk away with the major accolade at the London World Championships. He will compete at the London marathon in April.
“I have to prove my critics wrong,” he told Xinhua.
“A fast time in London is inevitable and with the good form I enjoy at the moment, it will not be a hard shot,” he said Tuesday from Eldoret.
Kirui registered back-to-back wins at the 2009 and 2011 world championships in Berlin and Daegu before a hamstring injury crippled his chances on the World Stage.
He has since returned to camp in Kaptagat to start his training in a bid to enter the Team Kenya.
