Samarajeeva wins Cross Country, likely to feature in Kampala World Championships

Lionel Samarajeeva of Central Province could represent Sri Lanka in the 2017 Kampala World Cross Country Championships after winning the national accolade in Nuwara Eliya on Saturday.

It was the 43rd National Sports Festival conducted by the Ministry of Sports and Samarajeeva posted 33.00 minutes ahead of Gayanthika Abeyratne (38.33).

The men’s team championship and the women’s championship were won by Central Province.

The World Championships get underway March 23rd at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.

Results of the Nuwara Eliya Cross-Country race are to be forwarded to the Sri Lanka Athletics Association to weigh whether Sri Lanka runners can compete in the Uganda’s capital.
