Uganda Cup 2016/17: ‘Fair draws’ for top clubs at the round of 64

Knock out competitions world over are unpredictable.

Cases of unrated clubs causing shocks against the so called big wigs are numerous and well documented.

With the 2016/17 Uganda Cup round of 64 stage slated to kick off on 21st January 2017, the draws for remaining 64 clubs were conducted at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala on Wednesday.

FUFA Competitions director, Ali Mwebe supervised the draws attended by the media and club officials.

Defending champions, Vipers travel to West Nile region to play a third division side, Premior Football Club.

URA, fresh from the Mapinduzi Cup will take on Lweza, SC Villa Jogoo makes the Kiboga trip to play Kiboga Young and KCCA will be at the Lugogo home against Koboko Rising Stars.

Some of the top flight sides to face one another will be Express hosting Kirinya-Jinja S.S at Wankulukuku, URA taking on Lweza in Lugazi and The Saints against Proline in Bombo.

A couple of Big league sides will face each other with the most notable game being Masavu’s home encounter against fellow Rwenzori group side, Mbarara City.

Hope Doves entertains Paidha Black Angels, Kira United will entertain Baza Holdings at the Kira Town Council play ground in another all big league affair.

“It is a fair draw for us and I think we shall work hard to progress to the next round,” URA’s director of fans, John Pulle who attended the draws told Kawowo Sports.

The draws were conducted by Muzafaru Ssebagala, Edrisa Sserubiri, George Kambwemukya, Pheobe Kutamba, Anthony Tumwesigye, FUFA Beach soccer delegate, Paul Ssali, 1978 Uganda Cranes goalkeeper at the AFCON held in Ghana, Keni Swalley, a sports journalist working with The New Vision, and a one Assimwe.

The winner of the Uganda Cup earns a ticket to represent the country at the CAF Confederations Cup.

This year’s date of the final has been tentatively fixed for the 27th May 2017 in West Nile.

FUFA will soon inspect the venue that will host the final.
