Malawi to send seven athletes for 2017 Kampala World Cross Country Championships

Hosts Uganda will have to prepare for seven athletes from Malawi for the Kampala World Cross Country Championships due 26 March at Kololo Independence Grounds.

Athletics Association of Malawi has confirmed, the seven will be chosen from the National Cross Country on Saturday at Dedza Golf Ground.

More than 150 athletes are expected to participate in the event according to Federation General Secretary Frank Chitembeya.

“We want to ensure we select good athletes who will have enough time to prepare for the international event. We will stage a 10 Kilometre race for both senior men and women,” he told The Nation.

“The junior women will compete in a six Kilometre race while junior men will compete in an eight Kilometre race.”

Malawi last made an appearance at the Cross Country World stage in 2013. The country’s athletes made the trip to Moscow, Russia.
