Newly appointed Rugby Cranes 7s strength and conditioning coach Geoffrey Watene Kimani arrived in the country on Wednesday this week.

The Union, which had remained tight lipped about the Kenyan national, finally announced Kimani’s appointment and revealed what he will be expected of as the strength and conditioning coach.

“The Uganda Rugby Union is pleased to announce the partnership with Mr. Geoffrey Watene Kimani as the Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Consultant for the Uganda Men’s 7s team.” reads a statement released by the Union Wednesday morning.

He will be expected to help the sevens team get into the right shape before the Hong Kong Sevens slated for April and the Africa 7s tournament set for November this year.

He will also, depending on how talks go, help the 15s team as well as some clubs in the country.

Kimani, a Kenyan national, is a highly trained S&C coach as well as a World Rugby Educator in S&C.

He has worked in the same field with teams in three disciplines .

He worked as the Speed Development Coach for the Harambee stars. He was also the S&C coach for the Kenya 7s men’s rugby team.

In 2015 and 2016, he worked as the Sprint coach for the Kenya National athletics team.

Kimani is expected to design a programme that the team will follow in their preparations.

Kimani will also conduct some courses to develop the strength and conditioning bit of the game around the Country.
