Golf remains one of those perfect sporting disciplines that provide the excellent platform for networking, healthy competition and exercising opportunity as well.
A round of golf or two guarantees the golfer that lee way to walk, slope and climb yards on the course with the after game postmortem and other business usually discussed with soothing refreshments preferably a glass of Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
Arguably regarded as the most scenic golf course in Uganda, the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa is a must attend facility.
Located along the shores of Lake Victoria in the tranquil Kigo Township, 8km off the Kampala – Entebbe Highway, Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa should be every golfers’ intended destiny for its picturesque appearance, amazing fair-ways and state of art well maintained greens.
During the Janani Luwum public holiday, the facility hosted at least 60 golfers for the first members and guests invitational tournament.
As early as 7:00 a.m, the first set of golfers teed off under the morning and chilly breeze from Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest fresh water body.
By 5:00 p.m, the last golfers had already returned to the club house with their score cards ready to be sorted as they refreshed in the locker rooms ready for the 19th hole experience with the official prize giving ceremony, dinner, drinks and partying till late.
At exactly 7:00 p.m, MC John Kato ushered in the guests and golfers for the prize giving ceremony on the veranda of the club house overlooking Lake Victoria.
Anne Abeja playing off handicap 11 returned 30 points to win on count back against the chasing pack of Liu Min Shu and Irene Nakalembe.
Abeja earned herself a shopping voucher courtesy of Serena Hotel and a glittering trophy.
In the Men’s category where 48 golfers took part, Jadu Patel, handicap 12 scored 34 points to win on count back over Moses Matisko and Manesh Tailor for the overall men trophy, a shopping voucher and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
The special prize was reserved for the member winner, Matisko who out staged the 24 registered members who took part.
Matisko congratulated the other players on the day as he called upon the rest of the golfers to subscribe for membership at the wonder golf course.
Manesh Tailor smiled with a Johnnie Walker Platinum bottle for finishing as the overall runners up gentleman.
Longest Drive and Nearest to the pin contests:
Former Uganda Golf Union president Kiroywa Kiwanuka took home a fire blanket courtesy of Pinnacle Security for winning the nearest to the pin male courtesy.
Anne Abeja won the ladies version for the same prize.
Faiz Alam and Irene Nakalembe won the men and women respective longest drive contests to return home with Fire Blankets too.
Membership at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf and Spa course goes for $6000 with an annual subscription of $1500.
Some of the country’s senior citizens as ministers, Members of Parliament, lawyers and businessmen graced the tourney.
Some of these included John Byabagambi (Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs), John Nasasira, Amos Nzeyi, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Johnson Omolo (President Uganda Golf Union) and many others.
“We welcome you to this fantastic and best course in Uganda. We are here to inspire and celebrate the legacy of Johnnie Walker. I encourage many of you to join the bandwagon and become members of this golf course,” Amos Nzeyi noted in a brief address.
Similar tournaments will be held throughout the year, albeit, on invitational basis as the course continues to undergo the 18 holes metamorphosis and other up-grades.
