Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru takes Kabale rally lead

There was excitement for Kabale rally enthusiasts as the second edition of Gorillas in the Mist revved off.

Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru came out top after the opening day.

Navigated by George Semakula, Mubiru covered the 118.14 kilometre distance in 59 minutes, 54 seconds to take day one lead.

“Our car is on its birthday. It made its debut last year with this event. So we need to do all it takes to produce better results,” says Mubiru.

“So tomorrow we shall do the same. We shall push harder to win this event,” he added.

Kikankane goes into day two with a two minutes and six seconds lead ahead of second placed Ronald Sebuguzi. Omar Mayanja finished day one, third while Ambrose Byona is fourth.

Meanwhile, over ten crews had their contention limited on day one.

A drive shaft ended it for Hassan Alwi in stage eight(Katuna). He was second before he dropped out.

Musa Kabega also had a bad day in office with an early retirement in stage four(kitagata).

Arthur Blick Jr was another victim bowing out in the Katuna stage with mechanical issues.
