KCCA have no fear but respect for Sundowns, says Mutebi

When KCCA FC take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Friday, there will be no fear but respect between the two sides.

Manager Mike Mutebi told the press that his side has nothing to fear ahead of the game as Sundowns, like KCCA FC, is just a football team.

“Why should we fear?” Mutebi responded when asked about how his side would treat the defending champions in the first leg.

“We have no fear. All we have to do is respect them because they are African champions.

“I am thinking about my players. What Okot (Denis) has to do, the abilities Majwega (Brian), the abilities Sserunkuuma (Geoffrey) has.

“I am not going to focus on the other team and we are not going to play football reacting to them. No, we are going to play our way,”

Mutebi further revealed that it will be important for his side to come back from South Africa with a good result before the return leg in Kampala.

“It is important we score and you can only score when you attack,”

With club chairman Julius Kabugo confirming that the team would travel on Tuesday, Mutebi revealed that he would travel with more players than he did for the game against   Primeiro de Agosto.

The 2016 coach of the year also confirmed the winger Vicent Kayizzi and striker Robert Ssentongo, who missed the trip to Angola, would be part of the travelling contingent.

To get to this level, KCCA eliminated Angolan outfit Agosto with a 2-2 aggregate by relying on Geoffrey Sserunkuuma’s away goal.

Since the 2-1 loss in Luanda, KCCA have scored 8 goals, defeating Onduparaka 7-0 at Philip Omondi stadium before beating The Saints 1-0 at the Champion Stadium in Mwerere.

The return leg of the Sundowns game will be played on March 18 at Lugogo.
