Zambia’s Leroy Gomes is confident he will salvage some points in next week’s Safari Rally as he pursues his first Africa Rally Championship title.
The second of the African rally series is set for next week 17-18th March in Nairobi, Kenya.
Gomes and co-driver Urshlla Gomes were the only ARC contenders in the first ARC round in Ivory Coast. But mechanical problems deprived them of assuming the ARC lead.
Gomes is however optimistic of a better position in Kenya.
“With the new scoring system that require us to be fast, our only aim will be to just get in on the top ten and score some points. And I believe we shall manage,” he told Kawowo Sports.
But Gomes understands well the competition involved in the Safari Rally.
“I know it’s not going to be so easy because we are literally having some of the best in Africa competing for Safari win, but we shall do all we can to hung in there.”
Gomes and Urshlla will be making in a Mitsubishi Evo X.
Gomes will be joined by elder brother Kleevan as well as the Singh brothers; Jassy and Muna to represent Zambia in Kenya.
