- Vipers vs. Platinum Stars – St. Mary’s Stadium, 4:00pm
Vipers Sports Club had a training session at St. Mary’s Stadium in nearly nine months on Thursday evening as they continue to fine tune for the CAF Confederation Cup tie against Platinum Stars.
New Coach Jorge Miguel Da Costa oversaw the two-hour session whose emphasis was on pressing opponents, creating chances from wide positions and shooting.
The Portuguese tactician told the club website: “The only way we can win games is by scoring and therefore concentration, creating and converting chances into goals is our main target.”
Vipers were blunt in the previous round against Comoros opponents Volcan Club de Moroni and only eliminated them on away goals rule after a 1-1 aggregate, having failed to score at home.
Da Costa has thus tasked his players to put the home advantage to full use, score and win the game at home and avoid unnecessary pressure away in the return leg.
He said: “We are at home and all we need is to win, win and win and we have high hopes Vipers will eliminate their South Africa opponents.”
There opponents, Platinum Stars, are expected to arrive in the country Friday evening at 7:00 pm.
