- Bright Stars vs. The Saints – 4:00pm
The Saints go head to head with Bright Stars at the Champions Stadium Mwererwe, on Sunday with a lot to fight for this season in the Uganda Premier League.
Just three places and two points separate the side coached by Moses Basena from the drop zone meaning, with ten games left to the climax of the campaign, The Saints risk getting relegated.
Basena’s task at the club hasn’t changed. Like it was the case last term, maintaining premier league status for the side still remains his only mission.
With both Sadolin Paints and Bul posting wins on Friday and Lweza drawing against Proline, pressure is on for Basena and his charges to respond with a positive result on Sunday.
The Saints now host their games at the Champions Stadium, but they will be the visiting team on Sunday. The last time they played at the ground, they surrendered a first half lead as Police leveled to end matters 1-1.
Against a side that has also won just once since the turn of the year, Sunday presents The Saints with an opportunity to secure their second win this year and at the same time move further away from relegation.
Mathematically, opponents Bright Stars are not safe from relegation either. The Stars sit seventh in the league but with 26 points to their name, they are just six points off the red zone.
Their unbeaten run of six games was halted last Saturday when they lost 3-0 to Sadolin Paints. They were however, able to hold Onduparaka in their last league outing as the sides settled for a barren draw at the Green Light Stadium.
Like earlier noted, Bright Stars have just one victory in 2017. They will be eager to claim another as they continue to push for a decent finish.
The main priority for the side would be a top half finish. That would certainly make for a successful campaign.
Victory tomorrow will lift them a place above to sixth.
