Ahmed Huwel has withdrawn from the Safari Rally due next weekend.

The Tanzanian says the delayed arrival of his new car will not allow him ample time to participate in the event.

Huwel, who was set to debut a the Ford Fiesta Proto in Kenya, said: “I feel so bad knowing that I wont take part in Safari Rally after preparing myself for the event.

“My new car was meant to reach this weekend, unfortunately some documents were delayed and it was not put on the flight,” he explained to Kawowo Sports.

He further expressed his disappointment on missing out on the most competitive event in the region but insists he will do at least one event in Kenya

“I really wanted to have my car in a very competitive event like Safari, this would have given me a big mileage with the Ford.

“But it’s not over yet, I will have to do at least one or two events in Kenya as well as in Uganda to feel that competition,” he said.

Huwel made a return to competitive rallying last year after close to a ten year absence.

The Ford, first of it’s kind in Tanzania is expected to give Tanzania a mileage in the region being the second country with the latest Ford model in East Africa.

Kenya’s former rally driver Rajbir Rai,  Manvir Baryan (both with Ford Fiesta R5) and Carlo Tundo (Ford Fiest Proto) introduced the latest Ford cars in East Africa.
