Milton Karisa wheels off in celebration after the historic goal

Vipers Sports Club forward Milton Karisa is excited having scored the historic opening goal at the newly opened St Mary’s Stadium.

The 22-year-old scored the lone goal on the day in Vipers’ slim 1-0 win against South Africa’s Platinum Stars in the CAF Confederation Cup first round encounter.

I am happy to score the goal on such a day when the St Mary’s Stadium was officially opened. I dedicate it to my teammates and family.

It is a big honour and glory goes back to the Lord, Almighty

Until that moment when Karisa headed home in the 46th minute off Nico Wakiro Wadada’s great cross, none of the over 20,000 spectators in the stands knew or guessed who would score first at the giant stadium.

Twice in the opening half, Erisa Ssekisambu tested Mbongeni Mzimela but failed to convert.

Deus Bukenya had a long range effort settle on the top of the goal nets, Mike Sserumaga shot wide and also had a blocked effort.

Karisa’s goal was a well timed header off Wadada’s well taken cross as it ignited the mood in the St Mary’s stadium stands.

The goal scorer, who joined the Venoms in the January window from Jinja side, BUL targets more spirited performances.

This is just the start. I want to maintain this and keep the consistency with the help of my playing mates.

Karisa has also scored on his club debut against Lweza at Mandela National stadium, Namboole during the Entebbe road derby.

The goal gives Vipers an advantage heading to the return leg next week.
