- Okwi is the second player to net a hat trick this season
- He has now scored six goals in as many league games since joining the club in January
- The hat trick is his first ever in the Uganda Premier League
SC Villa forward Emmanuel Arnold Okwi announced his arrival on the Uganda football scene 10 years ago.
A product of Jogoo Young, the club’s now defunct academy, Okwi hit the ground running with brilliant goals for the club before he left the club for Simba of Tanzania after the 2010 season.
But for all his goals, he had never scored a hat trick for the club in the league until Sunday March 12, against Onduparaka in his third stint at the Blues.
“It’s a great feeling,” he told Kawowo Sports. “I have scored hat tricks for other clubs and in other competitions but had never hit one for SC Villa in the league,” he added.
He missed a penalty inside two minutes of the game but went on to grab three brilliant goals as the 16-time league champions obliterated Onduparaka 4-1 at Masaka Recreation Ground.
“But the most important thing is the win for the team. It was a great display and hopefully, we build on this after a couple of disappointing results.
On what was literally a neutral ground for both sides, the Jogoos seemed a little more comfortable than the visitors as premiership football returned for Masaka Recreation Ground for the first time since Masaka LC was relegated.
We are not used to our new home but had a slight advantage having trained here since Thursday. If we get used, I send a warning to all visiting sides to expect fire.
Wasswa Bbosa’s side, now level on points, 41 with table leaders KCCA despite playing three more games face The Saints on Tuesday away from home.
