A 10 man Platinum Stars outfit from South Africa ejected Uganda’s Vipers Sports Club from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Christened Dikwena’, Platinum Stars won 3-1 on the day at Royal Bafokeng Palace Sports Stadium in Rustenberg during the flood lit game on Saturday night.
Goalkeeper Mbogeni Mzimela scored a penalty in either half with Ndumiso Mabena, the other player on target.
Milton Karisa, also the scorer in the first leg at St Mary’s stadium, Kitende pulled a goal back as the second half resumed but only served as consolation.
Mzimela was target as early as the second minute of the game before Mabena doubled the lead with a stunning free-kick eight minutes to the mandatory half time mark.
The first half eclipsed 2-0 in favour of the home side.
Upon resumption, the visitors fought gallantly as pulled a crucial away goal through Karisa despite an earlier disallowed goal from Erisa Ssekisambu.
Deep in added time, the home team was granted a second penalty that Mzimela converted to spark wild celebrations and a ticket to the next round.
Star player Robert N’gambi, who missed the first leg through injury was sent to the sin bin for an early shower following a second bookable offence.
Platinum Stars thus qualify 3-2 on aggregate having lost the first leg in Uganda.
The loss for Vipers is the first for Portuguese national Jorge Miguel Duarte Da Costa, who will make three weeks on the job in the coming days.
