Al Bakri Madina scored a hat trick as Sudan’s El Merriekh beat Rivers United of Nigeria 4-0 to complete one of the greatest come backs in African football.

Trailing 3-0 from the first leg in the CAF Champions League, Al Merriekh, home to Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Jamal Salim Magoola needed not less than four goals to reach the group stage and they just did that.

Al Madina set the ball rolling as early as the eighth minute when he slotted home and added the second and third in the 23rd and 45th minutes respectively.

With 18 minutes to the final whistle, Alticket completed the rout with a winner that won the tie 4-3 on aggregate over two legs for the former CECAFA Kagame Cup winners.

To reach the play off stage, Al Merriekh had ejected Equatorial Guinea’s Sony El Nguema in the preliminary round 5-1 on aggregate while Rivers United had ejected Mali’s Real Bamako 4-0.
