One of the future prospects in the game of chess, Keon Nzeire had a tournament to forget as he finished a disappointing 22nd at the CLA Cadet tournament that concluded on Sunday at Jevine Hotel, Rubuga.

Nzeire, the only rated player at the event with 1900 managed only four victories out of the possible seven to end the tourney with four points.

One of his tormentors Mathew Matsiko emerged champion as he swept aside his opponents to register six points at the event in the U12 category.

In the U10 section, Olivia Kirabo recorded a perfect 7/7 with her seven victories. She won the category ahead of Claude Bukenya the pretournament favorite, while Terry Tendo owned the U8 category as he saw off all his opponents.

Matsiko, Kirabo among other winners will take part in the Schools/Colleges/Universities/Corparates/Individual Chess Championships slated to take place next month in Mombasa, Kenya.

The tournament doubled as the First Phase Qualifiers for the World Cadet Chess Championships set for August in Brazil.
