Former Cranes tactician Herbert Wafula has been appointed new coach of the Rwanda National Rugby team.
Wafula was signed on a short-term contract as the country prepares for the 2017 African Rugby Cup 1C Competition in Zambia.
Rwanda will face hosts Zambia and Mauritius in Pool C on March 24 and April 2 in Lusaka respectively and Wafula a trusted figure is expected to impress.
“We have hired him initially for two months to prepare the team for the forthcoming African Rugby Cup 1C Competition in Zambia. We have high expectations of him,” rugby federation secretary general, Tharcisse Kamanda told Rwanda New Times.
Wafula retired in 2003 from the Uganda 15s side. He has an IRB Level 2 coaching certificate, and has coached local sides – Warriors, Rhinos and also guided the team Uganda at the Safari sevens.
