Netherlands-based Daku set to fight Tanzania’s Mbelwa for WBU Intercontinental title

The World Boxing Union (WBU) has sanctioned a fight between Farouk ‘Malingumu’ Daku, a Ugandan boxer based in Netherlands and Tanzania’s Said Juma Mbelwa for its German version of the vacant Intercontinental title.

The bout, organized by Team Boxing Promotions Kenya in conjunction with Malingumu Promotions Uganda is scheduled to take place at Le 63 Lounge and Restaurant in Nairobi, Kenya on 16th April.

In their previous fight (their first meeting), Daku beat the Tanzania in a bout staged here in Kampala in 2015 to capture the African Boxing Union ABU title in a 12 round unanimous decision.

“The fight is very important for me and my career,” Daku, a three time East and Central African champion said of the contest.

“Mbelwa is one of the strongest fighters on the African continent. He fights in Africa as well as in Europe so he is a very experienced fighter. To beat him, I really need a good game plan because this time we are in no man’s land.

“Last time, I had to dig deep to beat him, this time, I need to think twice before throwing any punch. But I will do all it takes to win the fight because I need to improve my ranking in the world rankings,” he added.

Daku’s opponent Mbelwa is Tanzania’s two time Pugilistic Syndicate Light Heavy Weight champion.

The two will fight in the Super Middleweight 76.2 Kgs
