On a night that was themed alongside the African culture, the Singleton Golf match play series challenge had the fourth round concluded with success at Entebbe club.

At stake still, the triumphant pair of amateurs and one professional stands to take home the big prize of a once-in-a-lifetime all-expenses paid trip to watch The Open at the Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.

Close to 185 golfers took the lake side fairways and greens although only four pairs apiece were in serious competitions both in the amateur and professionals category.

After a string of walk overs in the earlier round, it was time up for the famous pair of Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Elly ‘Sober’ Mukasa to take to the field when they faced Ray Kahigi and Ibra Bagalana.

The former pairing won 4/2 to earn a fire extinguisher courtesy of Pinnace Security and a round of golf at the Serena Golf course.

Moses Ssebugwawo and Emmanuel Mugabi pair gave way to Dan Kajungu and Collins Nuwagira pair who finished 4/2 victory.

Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri edged top tournament contenders Allan Muhereza and Moses Matsiko pair 3/2.

The biggest shock of the day came from Jadu Patel and Anthony Agaba who punished ‘Kabalaza’ Golf pair Enock Nuwagaba and Paul Nsereko 3/2.

Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Elly ‘Sober’ Mukasa pair as well as  Anthony Agaba and Jadu Patel pair donated their Fire Extinguisher prizes to Entebbe Club.

Professionals:

Serena Golf Club pro Fred Wanzala overcame Herman Mutawe on sudden death, Phillip Kasozi beat Abbey Bagalana still on sudden death, Dennis Anguyo was took good for Entebbe club pro 2/1 and Vincent Byamukama required a sudden death after 21 holes to edged Deo Akope.

Subsidiary Event:

In the Subsidiary event, Mark Nsubuga playing off handicap 8 returned 71 nett to topple Group A men.

He was closely followed by handicap 5 player Dennis Kabariria who scored 72 nett to win on count back.

Hilary Ndugutse took Group B men 67 nett whilst Fred Kasumba returned 65 nett to finish as the day’s best golfer, beating South Sudanese army general, Gier Chuang.

Under the ladies section, Shiella Kesiime won on countback after finishing with 73 nett. The handicap 13 golfer was better than Bridget Basiima in Group A.

Rita Akot Apell finished with 68 nett to win ladies Group B. Maureen Okurra, handicap 25 finished with 65 nett to take second place in Group B.

Side Bets:

Longest Drive contests:

Shiella Kesiime and Marthin Ochaya won the women and men longest drive contests on hole 18.

Bridget Basiima took the nearest to the pin affair on hole 10 as David Balaka won under the male gender.

A surprise guest of the day was South Sudanese Army General Gier Chuang who lit up the 19th hole thanks to his South Sudanese traditional outfit that was the center of attention and eventually earned himself a Singleton whiskey.

Chuang who had a podium finish on his debut attributed the fair round of golf to the earlier practice round he had over the grueling course a couple of days earlier.

The general who also smiled home with a runners up trophy for hitting 67 nett thanked the pros who guided him in the training.

I want to thank my mentors – Deo Akope and Dennis Anguyo. I trained on the course two days before the tournament but I have managed to be among the winners.

Fast rising singer Ykee Benda of the ‘Nze Nimiro, Nze Farmer’ fame crowned up the night with a great performance as he sang a couple of his hit popular including ‘Muna Kampala’, Eva among others.

The 5th round will take place on 13th May 2017.
