Table Tennis, Badminton added to UMEA Solidarity Games menu

When the 2017 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) solidarity games get underway this Good Friday, two new games will be added onto the menu.

Table Tennis and Badminton will be played at the UMEA games for the first time.

This was confirmed at a press conference held at Kibuli S.S in Kampala on Tuesday.

Mbarara District will host over 30 schools for the four-day tournament where Welden High School and Nyamitanga S.S.

UMEA Games organizing committee chairperson Hajji Twahili Kitezeela expressed gratitude towards having the two games on the menu.

It gives us special pleasure that we are having more games added to the UMEA menu. Add to football (boys and girls), handball (boys and girls), volleyball (boys and girls) and netball, Badminton and Table Tennis addition will further help to promote sports development in Uganda generally.

Kiteezaala was flanked by the committee treasurer, Hajji Ali Mugaga, general secretary Hajji Hussein Lwebaawo and publicity secretary Ayub Khalifaani.

The Table Tennis and Badminton federations have each donated six trophies apiece, playing equipment (two playing tables and shuttles) and will provide the technical expertise throughout the tournament.

Defecto Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) ‘president’ Robert Jjagwe also graced the event held at Kibuli S.S.

Last year’s event was held successfully by Masaka Secondary School.

This year’s UMEA Games will be held in at Welden and Nyamitanga Girls Schools.

The tournament will climax on Easter Monday.

Kibuli S.S is the overall defending champion.
