Police missed out on a chance to move further away from the drop zone after playing out a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Bright Stars at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Tuesday.
In a dull encounter with little to write home about, Police will feel aggrieved for failing to undo their opponents, especially after their morale-boosting victory against Vipers last week.
The Cops’ real chance came in the first half when Rueben Kimera sent an inviting cross from the left, but Michael Birungi who was returning to the starting lineup missed contact with the ball.
Police missed the services of their on-loan forward William Wadrid. Wadri who was unable to play against his parent club Vipers last week because of the league rules was to return to the starting eleven, but failed after being beaten by robbers from his home last night.
The result means the former champions remain tenth in the league, a place below Bright Stars on goal difference. Both teams have 29 points, meaning only four points separate the two sides from the bottom three.
Despite witnessing his team extend their winless run to nine games, Fred Kajoba and his assistant seemed pleased with the result. The two smiled endlessly and congratulated each other after the final whistle.
Bright Stars’ failure to post positive results has dragged them into the relegation dogfight. They now join Police and other teams below them in the fight for survival.
