It is official! St Mary’s Kitende will play Jinja S.S in the final of the 2017 Copa Schools Football tournament.

The development was confirmed on Friday evening at the fully packed Arena play ground in Kitovu, Masaka after semifinal clashes.

In the opener, tournament dark horses, Jinja S.S recovered from a goal down to force the match into a shoot out that they won 3-1. Normal time of this game had ended one goal apiece.

Nakaseke International took the lead on 44 minutes before Jinja S.S made amends after an own goal five minutes to full time.

In the much awaited second semifinal, favorites St Mary’s Kitende edged a depleted Kibuli 2-1.

Brian Kasumba scored in the 6th and 35th minutes to give Richard Wasswa and Edward Golola’s side the lead.

Former Uganda U-17 midfielder Joel Jangyambe pulled one back with a stunning strike off 35 yards past goalie Eric Kibowa for arguably the goal of the tournament.

Kibuli was largely a depleted side missing three star players through suspension.

Another former Uganda Cubs player in goalkeeper Ali Mwerusi was sent off in the Round of 16 clash against Buhobe. The other two players – Adam Musisi and Fred Tabu were also red carded for violent conduct in the ill-tempered game against hosts Masaka S.S won by Kibuli S.S 3-1 in a tense shoot out.
