When the first official event on the 2017 Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) calendar cues off with the super cup at Lumas Pool arena this Saturday, all eyes will be on who draws the first blood.

Pharmaceutical company C. K. I Pool Club eyes a perfect run against the Kisenyi Scrap dealers in the all-male gender match.

On the other hand, the women’s match will witness league cup holder Hot pool up against Skin Samona.

Both teams get their pursuit of a senior league title this year with their confidence sky high, seeking to brush away painful memories in their past three meetings.

During the previous season,  C. K. I enjoyed two of the three fixtures involving Scrap Buyers.

They won their senior League first round fixture 14-11 in the board room when electricity hindered the completion of the match that stood at 12-11 before the fate.

Scrap Buyers answered back with a comfortable 15-10 in second round but later C. K. I crushed them 13-09 in last year’s Clubs Knockout final.

Scrap Buyers enter this fixture as Senior League Defending Champions after managing to win 17 of their 30 matches last season.

However their squad seems stuttering having been busy offloading key players in the transfer window.

The club shipped off their play maker and decisive specialist Andrew Artman Kabubi to Capital Night Pool Club.

They also sold Navy Matovu and Kamoga Uzair to Roniz and Indigo Pool Clubs respectively.

The team however bridged the vacuum with the arrival of veteran Dennis Nyombi who was a free Agent.

They have also called back their young player Allan Mayumba who spent the second tier of the season on loan to Oceans Pool Club.

Old guards Joseph Mutawe, Salim Akankwasa, Moses Wasswa and the even green Wasswa Kayiiya will also be available for selection.

Enter team C.K.I.

They are expected to field a star studded young lineup having secured the services of battle master Hazard Lukomwa from Boat.

Two time Masaka open champion Joram Nabasa also beefed up CKI from Club Icon in the summer.

Add to the reigning national champion Sula Matovu, Mansuur Muto, the robust Musa Ssekiliba, Herbert Ndugga, Robert Lubega and Meddie Kalanzi all fit for this tie, the doctors’ seem ready for the task.

Women:

In the ladies category, national league defending Champions Hot Pool Club shall be out to hunt for their first super Cup glory against bitter rivals Skin Samona Pool Club.

Jacinta Kajubi will be one of the players in action in the super cup

Samona lost the league title last season to Hotpool despite winning them both home and away.

But Samona’s sweat got paid off in Clubs Knockout with a comfortable 5-3 triumph in the final against the same opponents.

During the preseason ladies championship, Skin Samona again proved their wrath by humiliating Hotpool 7-4 in the quarterfinals of the championship of which Samona ended as its eventual winners.

Hot Pool have been silent in the transfer market and their hopes lie in the services of last season’s league top scorer Sharon Mirembe.

Mirembe will be joined by the All African Pool Associations Championship quarter finalist Justine Nampeebwa to change scoreboards upside-down.

Carol Kanzira and Joan Nakayiza are also expected to be available for selection.

Skin Samona lost the clinical Vicky Namuyanja to C. K. I and released Janat Kaku as well.

Uganda’s women seed 1 Ritah Nimusiima, left handed gem, Jacinta Kajubi and new signing Rhoda Nakaweesi from Anchors are expected to start the match.

The PAU Super cup event was initiated in 2014, organized to be played between the winners of the previous Senior and Ladies Leagues against the winners of the Clubs Knockout.

Last year, the tournament was never organized due to financial constraints and a busy calendar which affected the governing body.

This will be first official event under the epoch of newly elective executive where Bob Trubish is chairman.

Trubish replaced Farouk Kisuze Wamala.
