Timothy Ntumba struck a winner late in the game as Kampala Hockey Club Stallions came from behind to beat title rivals Weatherhead 2-1 in a tight game on Saturday at the National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo.

Weatherhead’s player-coach Vincent Kasasa fired his side in front in brilliant fashion after the first half had ended goalless, with both sides shy of goal.

But Bernard Bwire’s charges were resilient and it paid off as they took charge of the game in the last eight minutes, with Benjamin Makapa netting the equalizer before Ntumba notching the winning goal to make sure of the three points on the opening day of the season.

Ntumba had failed to convert a penalty in the first half that could have given the Stallions the lead, but the forward made up for that as he notched the winning goal and KHC were able to avenge a Weatherhead Open final loss.

It was just the start the side needed, and with defending champions Wananchi playing their first game next weekend, KHC will stay atop if Simba and Rockets share spoils on Sunday.
