2nd Victoria Golf Cup: 6th – 8th July 2017

Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has named a formidable team ready to face off with perennial challengers Uganda during the second edition of the Victoria cup.

This year’s Victoria Cup will be held at the lake side Entebbe Golf Club, Uganda from July 6th to 8th 2017.

Limuru Country Club member John Karichu leads the strong 10-man team.

Kenya Railways’ Alfred Nandwa, Edwin Mudanyi of Vet Lab, his teammate Mike Kisia as well as tried and tested Samuel Njoroge are the other players on the team.

Kenneth Bollo, Dennis Saikwa (Royal Nairobi), Jeff Kubwa (Muthaiga) and the country’s top two juniors Agil Is-Haq of Nyali Golf and country club Mombasa and Muthaiga’s Mutahi Kibugu complete the team.

According to a press release by KGU Chairman Richard Wanjalla, official training commences next week;

Some players are already training with the national coach John van Liefland at Muthaiga Golf Club, the official sessions will commence next week.

This will be second edition of the rotational Victoria Cup between Kenya and Uganda.

The inaugural championship was hosted by Kenya at the Muthaiga Golf Club in June 2016 and Kenya emerged champion.

The format of the event just like last year, will be played on the Ryder Cup format with each country fielding a team of 10 players.

Officials on Kenyan team:

KGU chairman Wanjalla, his vice Lucas Maranga and national coach John van Liefland are the confirmed officials on the team.

The hotel of residence for team Kenya will be confirmed soon.

Meanwhile, Amos Kamya, head coach for team Uganda will release the team on Sunday.

Captain Becca Mwanja is expected to lead the cast of players on the team.
