Defending champions Wananchi [W] got off to a commanding start in the National Hockey League on Sunday with a 11-0 destruction of Kampala Hockey Club Swans at the National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo.
In a game that the opposition offered no resistance from onset, Norah Alum opened the pummeling in the 3rd minute before the club’s top scorer last season Doreen Mbabazi doubling the lead three minutes later.
Mababazi and Maggy Amia then ensured the game was over as a contest in the first half as the latter added the third before Wananchi’s shirt 11 spectacularly capping the first 35 minutes of the game with two more goals to end it 5-0.
Doreen Asimwe made it six early in the second half before Teddy Lucy Achiro making a week of goals for her side.
Amia made it two for herself and there was still plenty of time for Topista Anyango and Peace Makoha to get in the score sheet, before Asiimwe wrapped up an evening to savour with her second of the day in the 66th minute.
It was the worst possible start for Faustine Ojangole whose side missed a couple of dependable players, and it was evident in the game as no resistance was offered, and once again, KHC proved no match for the two-time league champions.
Wananchi now take an early in the ladies’ division with a huge goal difference. It is now up to title rivals Weatherhead Gazelles who play on Sunday to try and match that performance as they face debutants Rhino.
