Ugandan trio of Umar Kasumba, Rogers Aloro and Feni Ali made a winning start to their Sofapaka career with a deserved 2-0 win over ten-man Gor Mahia in Meru.

Ezekiel Opore and Timothy Luda scored in either half to condemn the record Kenya Premier League holder who had skipper Muhammad Musa sent off late in the second half.

Opore opened the scoring as early as the ninth minute slotting past Boniface Olouch and ten minutes after the break, Luda made it 2-0 and kept it at tight at the back till the final whistle.

Musa Muhammad was then sent off with eight minutes left to clock the 90 as Gor Mahia started the reign without departed Brazilian coach Jose Ferreira Marcelo alias Ze Maria who joined Albania’s KF Tirana with a loss.

Sam Ssimbwa named a starting eleven with five Ugandans including goalie Mathias Kigonya and defender Jonathan Mugabi.

The loss, coupled with Tusker’s goalless draw with Kariobangi Sharks means Gor Mahia now drop to second on the log with 27 points while Sofapaka are now on 23 points and fifth on the 18-team log.
