Light College Katikamu are the champions of the Buganda Region Women’s League.

They were crowned at the Katabi Gombolola football ground in Entebbe Municipality after finishing with 16 points from 6 games (5 wins and 1 draw).

At Katabi, three games were played on the closing day of the league.

Entebbe based Tagy High School and Light College Katikamu played to a goalless draw.

Light College defeated God  Cares Secondary School Bulega 3-0 in the second match of the day while Tagy High also overcame God Cares 2-0 in the final match of the day.

Light College Katikamu’s victory earned them an automatic qualification to join the 2017/18 Fufa Elite Women League.

Winning coach Mustapha Kayinda hailed the school administration for supporting and investing in girl’s football which has yielded positive results.

When I first arrived at Light College Katikamu, there was no girl’s football. I gave the school administration the idea which they bought and immediately started supporting.

We played our first games this term in the National Copa Coca Cola tournament in Kabale.

I once again approached the school administration about participating in the Buganda Regional Women’s League which they also bought and I’m glad that we have achieved positive results despite this being our debut season

Meanwhile, Kim Walusimbi, the Buganda Region Women’s League secretary called on the various corporate companies in Entebbe Municipality to support grass roots soccer organizations to promote the talent of the girl child through sports.

He criticized Fufa for not facilitating the women football teams in Uganda in accordance with the FIFA guidelines on women football development.

Masavu coach Allan Kabonge who presided over the closing ceremony as Chief Guest urged other schools to emulate Light College Katikamu in the development of football talent among the students.

Halima Kanyago  (Tagy High)  – 18 goals.

Catherine Nagadya (Tagy High) –  12 goals.

Anita Natasha (Light College) 10 goals.

Best Goal Keeper: Zulaika Ngamita (Light College).
