Uganda to host Africa Sevens

In a year Uganda is hosting the biggest number of the Africa Cup matches in the same calendar year, the fans will also have the chance of watching the shorter version of the game’s continental showpiece.

Rugby Afrique selected Uganda to host 2017 edition of Africa Sevens tournament that is set for October this year. The tournament is set to be played between 6th and 7th in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.

Uganda won the last edition that was held in Nairobi and will be one of the 12 teams to participate in this year’s two-day tournament.

Tournament winner and the losing finalist will have a chance to appear at the Hong Kong Sevens in the HSBC World Sevens Series qualifiers. The winner also earns an invite to the Dubai 7s and Cape Town 7s.

Uganda, Namibia, Kenya, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal and Botswana are the teams confirmed for the tournament so far.

There are two slots left to be filled and these will be confirmed by Rugby Afrique before the tournament.

Uganda defeated Kenya in the semifinals before beating Namibia in the finals to win the cup in Nairobi last year.

The Women’s edition will be held in Tunisia and the champions will qualify for 2018 Sevens World Cup.
