Rivers United out-muscled a ten man KCCA FC 2-1 in a CAF Confederation Cup game played at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The home team took a quick first half lead through Bernard Ovoke as early as the first minute.
Ovoke out-jumped the defender to nod home a corner past goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo who started ahead of first choice Benjamin Ochan.
14 minutes later, the home side was again celebrating when former Bayelsa midfielder Frederick Obomate scored slotted home the side.
Inside the first added minute before the mandatory half time break, Geoffrey Sserunkuma connected home a first time shot after his partner in crime Derrick Nsibambi had chested controlled a high ball.
As the second half started, Kisembo who had also started in the way tie to FUS Rabat limped out for Ochan.
Teenager Julius Poloto made his maiden start on the continent.
KCCA manager Mike Mutebi brought out Allan Okello and Poloto for Ivan Ntege and Vincent Kayizzi respectively in their other two changes.
Habib Kavuma was red carded following a second caution on the day as the referee signaled three minutes of added time.
It was a revenge mission for Rivers United who lost to KCCA by the same margin during the first leg at the start of the month at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.
Rivers United now have six points, same as KCCA.
