Uganda Cranes goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba is impressed about the country’s recent clean sheet performances.
In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports, the former international expressed happiness about the significance of keeping clean sheets in a match.
Kajoba notes;
It is important we remain solid than concede.
The other departments get strong when goalkeeping is compact.
I am happy about the recent development by the goalkeepers.
After the 1-1 draw with Kenya in April, Uganda Cranes has put together three consecutive clean sheets away from home in Ethiopia, Senegal as well as the 1-0 victory against Cape Verde in Praia.
Kajoba is also excited about the richly endowed goalkeeping department.
You can see we have Onyango (Dennis), Benja (Benjamin Ochan), Isma Watenga and Robert (Odongkara) is recovering from injury.
The department is solid because when you look home, there are young goalkeepers coming up like Keni Saidi, Alionzi Alifani, James Alitho, Nicholas Ssebwato, Douglas Kisembo and many others which is good for the country.
He calls for goalkeepers’ continued hard work with personal and specialized goalkeeping training.
“Goalkeeping is a very sensitive department. One needs to be very fit because the goalkeeper is like an engine of the team. The future of the department looks promising,” he added.
Uganda Cranes will play one more regional tour in preparation of the CHAN 2018 first round qualifier against South Sudan home and away.
The winner between South Sudan and Uganda after two legs will lock horns with either Rwanda or Tanzania for a slot to the biennial championship that shall be held in Kenya.
Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes training will commence next week with the national head coach, Milutin Sredejovic expected to come up with the full programme.
