Kakande inspired by USPA Award ahead of World Championships

Quarterly winners for the USPA 2017 winners

After winning gold at the International Boxing Association (AIBA) African Boxing Championships in Congo Brazzaville, Ugandan welterweight boxer Muzamir ‘King Kong’ Kakande has now set his eyes to the world championships.

Kakande was voted by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) as the best sports personality for the month of June.

In the company of fellow bombers David ‘The Dragon’ Ayiti (Super Heavy) and Geoffrey Kakeeto (Bantamweight), Kakande received the monthly award and expressed his urge to work harder ahead of the World Boxing Championship.

I am so happy to be here (at the USPA crowning dinner).

I have to work harder and be here again.

This award is a great boost for me ahead of the up coming World Championships.

This year, USPA replaced the old policy of rewarding monthly winners with a quarterly basis.

Long distance runner, Robert Chemonges and body builder Andrew Ssenoga won the April and May monthly awards respectively.

Ssenoga was absent at the event  but was represented by Sebastian Samanya Ssentongo from Uganda Body Building Federation.

USPA President, Sabbiti Muwanga and special guest, Cythia Mpanga (PRO of Standard Chartered Bank) and a couple of sports journalists attended the dinner.
