CHAN 2018 Qualifiers (Eastern Zone):
- 1st Round, 2nd Leg (22nd July 2017)
- Uganda Cranes Vs South Sudan Bright Stars (Agg: 0-0)
- Lugogo, Kampala (4 p.m)
Playing away from home has never been a bed of roses for many teams.
Many players usually succumb to intense pressure from the home fans, suffer unpalatable reception and at most, under perform because of unforeseen circumstances.
When the Uganda Cranes traveled to the neighbouring South Sudan for the opening leg of first round CHAN 2018 qualifier, the team was more or less at home.
Assistant coach, Moses Basena is quick to shower praise to the supportive crowd at the Juba stadium.
We were like at home.
The team was received well, treated well and above all, many fans cheered the team with encouraging songs and chants of appreciation throughout the match.
Both the Sudan Sudan Bright Stars and Uganda Cranes failed to find the back of the net in the Friday encounter.
It is upon this background that Basena calls upon the home supporters to rally behind the team when the return leg comes to effect on Saturday.
“I urge the fans to turn up at Lugogo. We shall strive to play well and win,” Basena, who is also head coach at local side UPDF added.
The winner on aggregate between South Sudan and Uganda Cranes will meet either Rwanda or Tanzania at the final round of the qualifiers for a slot at next year’s championship that will take place in Kenya.
Tanzania and Rwanda played to a one-all draw at the Mwanza stadium on Saturday.
