Kalungi stars as Charlotte record another win over New York Red Bulls II

Uganda Cranes’ and Charlotte Independence defender Henry Kalungi featured as his club overcame New York Red Bulls II to mark their 6th win of the season.

Charlotte came riding on a club-best five game winning streak and opened the match with a goal in the 21st minute off a set piece from the foot of Jorge Herrera.

The club later doubled their lead sending a ball across the face of the goal which NYRB II defender Hassan Ndam redirected into his own net for a 2-0 lead.

The third soon came upon Kalungi and colleagues as Enzo Martinez finished off a counterattack assisted by Herrera, in the 53rd minute of the match.

With Kalungi at the back, Independence registered the highest number of tackles and also the greatest tackles success rate.

David Najem scored his first career goal for New York with a left-footed strike past Charlotte’s Cody Mizell before Junior Flemmings, who was substituted in in the 61st minute added another.

The goals cut the deficit to one but they weren’t enough as Independence walked away with victory.
