UCU Canons overcame a rocky start to defeat Ndejje University Angels 76-59 in the National Basketball League on Sunday night at YMCA.

Ndejje had a strong start to the game scoring 14 unanswered points before Brian Namake scored UCU’s first basket with 3:02 to ignite a 10-2 run to the end of the period.

Maker Deng got Ndejje’s first basket of the second quarter before Canons went on another 10-2 run to tie the game at 20 on Joas Maheta’s 3-pointer with 5:50. Canons went on a quick scoring run to 31 and Ndejje responded to go into halftime with the game level at 31.

UCU started to escape late in the third quarter and led by 7 (49-42) after the 10 minutes.

The Mukono side took the lead to to double figures early in the fourth quarter before Angels trimmed away to a 3 (53-56) points deficit on David Okello’s jump shot with 5:15.

Brian Namake connected from deep and Canons never looked back as Angels offense freezed.

Fadhili Chuma led UCU’s team effort with 14 points and 12 rebounds, Namake had 13 points and Maheta contributed 12 points. Jonathan Egau and Steven Wundi scored 9 and 8 respectively.

David Okello scored game high 16 points to lead Ndejje and Maker Deng had 13.
